Kasts, developed by KDE e.V., is a convergent podcast client designed to deliver a consistent user experience across desktop and mobile Linux environments. Currently at version 26.04.0, the application has evolved through 22 public releases, refining its ability to merge local playback convenience with cloud-based synchronisation. Built on KDE’s Kirigami framework, Kasts presents a responsive interface that scales naturally from phone screens to large monitors, giving users the same queue-centric workflow everywhere. Central to the software is an episode-management panel that doubles as a play queue: episodes can be queued, reordered, and removed without interrupting playback, while automatic bookmarks remember exact positions even after a system reboot. Playback speed can be adjusted continuously, letting listeners compress talk shows or slow down dense interviews. Discovery is handled through an integrated search engine that queries major podcast directories; results can be subscribed to instantly and refreshed in the background. To keep progress consistent across devices, Kasts supports two-way synchronisation with gpodder.net servers and self-hosted gpodder-nextcloud instances, pushing resume points, played status, and new subscriptions whenever a network connection is available. System-level integration includes MPRIS control, media-key support, and a suspend-inhibit toggle that prevents the computer from sleeping while an episode is active. The application is freely available for Linux systems on get.nero.com, where downloads are delivered through trusted Windows package sources such as winget, always supplying the newest build and enabling batch installation alongside other applications.
